Recently, Esteban Saldaña, Community Outreach Coordinator with The Mesothelioma Center at Asbestos.com, reached out to the City and provided educational resources about the risks of asbestos exposure during home renovation and demolition projects. We are happy to share these resources with our residents.
Many homes and buildings constructed before the 1980s may contain asbestos in insulation, flooring, siding, ceiling materials, or other building products. When these materials are disturbed during remodeling or demolition, microscopic asbestos fibers can become airborne and pose serious health risks if inhaled.
Before beginning any renovation project in an older home, residents should educate themselves on proper handling procedures and disposal requirements. Taking the proper precautions helps protect homeowners, contractors, neighbors, and sanitation workers from unnecessary exposure.
